Penny Townsend, beloved mother and adored grandmother, died on September 4th, 2021. She leaves behind two daughters, Megan Ruttan and Shannon Ruttan, her grandson Henry Ruttan Walker, son-in-law Cameron Walker, and two brothers Phil Townsend and his wife Alison, and Rick Townsend and his partner Linda. Her nieces Miranda Townsend and Melissa Townsend, and nephew Morgan Townsend, also mourn her loss.
Penny was born in 1959 in Kirkland Lake and lived in Larder Lake with her family for the entirety of her childhood. As an adult, she worked for the Northern Daily News but later she went on to get her degree in Graphic Design. Eventually she moved to Kitchener, Ontario to be closer to her grandson and family.
She is predeceased by her parents, Olga (Chisholm) and Henry Albert Townsend, her sister Pamela Townsend and brother David Townsend. And her ex-husband and friend, Keith Ruttan.
Our mother, Penny, was the most warm-hearted and openly generous person. She would talk to anyone at length, especially if she could talk about her grandson, Henry, who she loved beyond all reason. She was able to maintain friendships with people she had known for more than 30 years and was always drawing new people to her because of her warmth and compassion. Above all, Penny valued kindness.
She loved animals, especially cats, but cared about all living creatures and the planet we all live on. She was always concerned about other people, the ones she knew and the ones she didn’t.
She will continue to be so very loved.
