Patricia Jane Pat Mayhew Kemp Saturday February 13th 2021

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Mrs. Patricia Jane ‘Pat’ Mayhew, on February 13, 2021, after a lengthy battle with dementia. She passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family at her side. Pat Mayhew was born on July 11, 1929, in Innisfail, Alberta and grew up in Markerville. She met the love of her life Chester and married after the war in March 1950. Pat and Chester moved around a little bit in the early years, living in the Acme area before buying and settling in at the family farm west of Markerville. It was on the farm where Ken, Connie and Rob all grew up. Pat was a home maker and helped out on the farm, but her passion was with hosting family get togethers and spending time with those she loved. She especially enjoyed big family get togethers, making large meals that everyone could enjoy, and watching her children and eventually grandchildren grow up. Pat and Chester enjoyed travelling and took many trips in the family RV to the mountains, travelled to Norman Wells in the Northwest Territories, took an Alaska cruise, and travelled to North Battleford on bus trips. After Chester’s heart attack in 2001, they sold the farm and bought a house in Innisfail so they could be closer to family and the amenities located in town. Chester passed away in March 2005, just shy of their 55th wedding anniversary. After Chester passed away, Pat kept herself busy volunteering at the church, assisting with the breakfast program at the school, and watching her grand children and eventually great grand children in their activities. She enjoyed watching hockey games, soccer games, and spending time with the families at her house or at their house. She enjoyed her freedom, living close to downtown Innisfail and being able to come and go as she pleased. In early 2018, Pat was diagnosed with Dementia, which eventually led to a placement in the Bethany Care Facility on the Red Deer College grounds, which is where she resided until her passing. Even in the facility she enjoyed all the activities presented to her, participating in art shows, trips to the zoo, the countless trips to the R.C.M.P. Police Dog Training Show and socializing. She never lost her sparkle and zest for life, always with a big cheery smile and hug for anyone who was lucky enough to be in her presence. Pat is survived by her sister, Ruth Haining and family; Ken and Kim Mayhew, and their daughters, Danielle (Layne) Thiessen and Holly (Devon) Jobagy; Connie Mayhew and her children, Travis (Melissa) Hansen, Stacie Hansen, Shianne Archer, Lena Archer and Tiffany Archer; Rob (Bonnie) Mayhew and his sons, Kelly (Holly) Mayhew and Ryan Mayhew. Pat will also be lovingly remembered by her numerous great Grand children who she loved to visit with and spoil. She will also be fondly remembered by her companion, Ernie Marshall. If desired Memorial Donations in Pat’s honor may be made to the Bethany Care Foundation, 100 2915-26 Avenue S.E, Calgary, Alberta, T2B 2W6, or at www.bethanycarefoundation.com.
