Obituary of Nadia Mauro
MAURO, Nadia (née Benincasa) – Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother unexpectedly passed at the Niagara Health St. Catharines Site, on Monday, June 21, 2021. Reunited with her beloved husband of 65 years, Vincenzo. She will be dearly missed and loved forever by her children Carmen (Rosanne) Mauro, Peter Mauro and Fred Mauro; her grandchildren Vince and Matthew (Nicole) and her little great grandchild Clara. Loved and cherished sister to Palmina (the late Giuseppe Borrelli) and Vanda (Enzo Grano). Daughter of the late Vincenzo and Agata Benincasa and daughter-in-law of the late Carmine and Angelina (née Ferrato) Mauro. Nadia is predeceased by her siblings: Giovanni (surviving spouse Clara) Benincasa, Francesco (Antonia) Benincasa, Eva (Angelo) Galli, Mario Benincasa and Aldo Politano (surviving spouse Melina); and siblings in law: Berardo (Antonetta) Mauro, Ida (Eugenio) Citrigno, Emilia (Carmen) Mazza, Agata (Vincenzo) Turnone, Franceso (Lina) Mauro, Tony (Helen) Mauro, Giuseppe (Eugenia) Mauro, and Teresina Mauro. Zia Nadia will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and cherished cousins. Nadia was born in Santo Stefano di Roglinao, Cosenza, Italy and came to Canada in 1956 with a strong faith in God. She was an amazing woman, wife and mother with the kindest heart, and she will be deeply missed by her sons. Early in her childhood she took on a maternal role to everyone in her family. She was the best sister who was often consulted for advice. Nadia worked various factory jobs as well as hard farm labour, and she also opened a small business sewing window coverings to provide for her family and was especially proud of her three sons for whom she would do anything. She had a passion for her vegetable garden and her flower beds, where she insisted on manicured gardens. She was passionate in her seasonal canning and preserving. Nadia was also a great cook, who made outstanding tomato sauce, chicken cutlets, meatballs and her favourite dessert turdillis – they were the best anyone could eat. She was also an expert at making sopressata and various cured meats, and she shared her knowledge (to a certain extent). She enjoyed travelling with her family to Las Vegas on a yearly basis, playing the slot machines and she was a regular at Casino Niagara, where she had many friends. Friends and family will be received at the BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME, 2 Regent Street, Thorold, on Thursday, June 24, 2021, by appointment only.
