Michael Richard Crowther
1942-2021
It is with profound sadness that the family of Michael
Richard Crowther announces his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Hospital in Fredericton at the age of 79 years. Born in
Halifax, Nova Scotia, on May 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Rev.
George Llewelyn and Pearl Iris (Clapham) Crowther.
Michael leaves behind his beautiful wife of 56 years, Joan
Ann (Miller) Crowther who cared for him until his last breath. They
were soulmates since childhood, and they loved each other with
incredible passion. Michael is survived by his three children whom he
loved dearly, Mark (Janet) Crowther of Ottawa, Darren (Laurie)
Crowther of Fredericton, and Kara (Blair) Gauthier of
Halifax. Michael also loved his grandchildren Colin
(Ashley), Lauren (Kendall), Brianne (Brandon), Katelyn, Sophia,
Charles, Brandon, Carter and Myles. Michael will be missed
by his brothers, Gregory of Fredericton, Gary (Priscilla) of Halifax,
and Peter (Sharon) of Fredericton. Also surviving are several nieces
and nephews, and an exceptionally close circle of friends whom he also
considered as family.
Michael spent his formative years in Salmon Beach and
Bathurst, New Brunswick. In 1962, he graduated from the Moncton
Institute of Technology and commenced working as a manager in the
financial industry. In 1967, Michael and Joan moved to
Fredericton where he was then appointed as an Executive Officer with
the Province of New Brunswick. He served fervently for 34
years with the Departments of Provincial Secretary, Justice and
Transportation. Michael won a number of prestigious National
and International awards for his professional work, together with the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and other NB Law Enforcement
agencies promoting Highway Safety, especially in the areas of
collision avoidance and the use of occupant restraints to save lives.
Michael was also successful as an owner in the power sports
and recreational business.
Michael was very involved in his community having received
awards of recognition from Scouts Canada, and from the United Church
of Canada where he served as a respected member and as an
Elder. Michael was also belonged to the Ancient Free and
Accepted Masons. He was an avid boater, car enthusiast and
he and Joan travelled frequently to enjoy their summer home in Salmon
Beach, and then Daytona Beach during the winter months.
Michael was an incredibly devoted husband and father. That unbridled
passion, his generosity towards others, his unwavering loyalty, and
his steadfast and resolute love for family, both as servant, and as
our leader will remain invested in all of us forever. His challenges
these last few years with Parkinson’s has been very
difficult. What remains however, is the beautiful comfort we have in
knowing he loved us all unequivocally.
Our family would like to express our personal gratitude to
the staff of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton for the
palliative care. Donations in Michael’s memory may be made
to Parkinson’s Canada in support of research.
The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July
26th, 2021 at 2:00 PM in St. Paul’s
United with Rev. Michelle Armstrong officiating and The Ven.
Wandlyn Snelgrove assisting. Due to the current health protocols,
