Obituary
David Michael O’Toole
Alder Point
It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of David Michael O’Toole on Monday, June 7 2021.
Born in North Sydney on November 21, 1961, and raised in Alder Point, he was the son of Mary Cecilia (Leblanc) and the late Henry David O’Toole.
Michael was a member of St. Joseph Parish Church Bras d’Or, and an active member of Knights of Columbus. He worked for the Cape Breton Regional Center of Education as a bus driver, and will be remembered as a “Jack of all trades” kind of guy. In his younger days, he worked for Municipal Ready Mix, commuted back and forth out west for years, was a fisherman, owned and operated Bucky’s Western Fries chip truck, and Big Mikes DJ. He’ll be remembered for his contagious laugh and smile – a gentle giant to all he crossed paths with.
His “Bus Kids” will miss him dearly. He was always on the go, whether it was on the road with Tanya, the baby and “Ma” (Tillie) or running the roads with Michael Ryan with business errands and duties. He loved Michael Ryan’s business (Alder Point Trucking and Excavating). He enjoyed plowing snow, hauling gravel, driving the backhoe, and being the driver, showing off his new GMC truck!
Michael leaves behind mother Mary O’Toole, beloved wife of 36 years Matilda “Tillie” (Saunders), daughter Tanya (John) Audoux, his pride and joy grand-daughter Lacey Lynn, son Michael Ryan (Katie), side kick Little Bear, grand-pup Sam, brothers-in-law Kenneth Saunders, and Ernie (Lillian) Saunders, sisters-in-law Marie (Robert) Potter, Rose (Bill) MacRae, and Bernadette “Goodie” Saunders, along with nieces, nephews through marriage, cousins, and friends from far and wide.
He will be missed dearly by best buddies- David Peterson, Sid Vickers, Scott MacCuspic, “Baddeck Bus Boys” and Mark, Russ Howley
Besides his father Henry David, Michael was predeceased by maternal and paternal grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, brothers-in-law Bucky, Kevin “Red”, Bernard, sister-in-law Judy, and life long friend Tony Rendell.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Andrew Wawer and staff, EHS, Cape Breton Regional Police, Nick Roland (Jennifer), and all family, friends, and neighbours who were supportive at these difficult times.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Michael will be held for family and friends at a later date
Donations in memory of Michael can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of one’s choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
