Michael Bernard Mike Sutherland 2021

We, the family of Michael Bernard Sutherland, regret to announce his sudden passing after a brief illness on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Halifax Infirmary with his family by his side.
Born April 1, 1943, in St. Peters, he was the third child of the late Ambrose and Rose (Sampson) Sutherland.
In 1962, Mike enlisted in the R.C.A.S.C. He was deployed to Egypt in 1964 as a Peacekeeper as part of the United Nations Emergency Force in response to the Suez crisis and was proud of the time he spent there. Upon returning home, Mike worked in construction, retiring from Municipal Ready Mix in 2006.
Dad’s humour was evident right to the end. He had a way of spinning tales and loved making people laugh. Dad was known far and wide and we could scarcely go anywhere that he did not run into someone he knew. He will be missed by his neighbours, Welton Street Tim Hortons friends, harness racing friends and his buddies from the boardwalk.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda (Matheson); daughter, Michelle Sutherland, Sydney; son, Sean (Sheri), New Glasgow; grandchildren, Laycie, Ben and Sophie; sisters, Beatrice (Bob) Morrison, Mary Sutherland and Jean (Jackie) Pottie, all of St. Peters; brothers, Victor, Nine Mile River and Patrick (Sharon) Sutherland, St. Peters; sisters-in-law, Trudy, St. Peters, Peggy MacNeil, Evanston and Georgina (Frank) Mombourquette, Okotoks, AB.
Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by his brothers, Frank and John “Twilight” Sutherland; sisters-in-law, Millie and Dolena Sutherland; and brother-in-law, Donnie MacNeil.
As per dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family celebration will be held at a later date.
A special thank you to Dr. Jason Osbourne and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Emergency Department, Life Flight Crew, doctors, nurses and staff (too numerous to name) at the Halifax Infirmary ICU 5.2 for the exceptional care and compassion shown to our entire family.
In dad’s memory, we ask that you show an act of kindness toward someone in need.
