Max Ernest Williston
October 15, 1932 – June 27, 2021
Max Ernest Williston, husband of the late Fay (Forrest) Williston, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Shannex, Losier Hall at the age of 88. Born in Black River, NB, he was the son of the late Harvey & Annie (Taylor) Williston.
Max was a retired Plumber who until his illness worked every day doing anything that needed to be done, whether it was plumbing or other odd jobs. Max loved helping people out and could put his hand to almost any job. He loved his family and his friends and loved to tell stories.
He is survived by his daughters: Connie Chamberlain (Glenn) of Miramichi and Joan Hicks (Clint) of St. John; step-daughters: Elizabeth Welner (Colin) of Moncton, Dorothy Benoit of Red Deer, AB, and Donna MacPherson-Nash (James) of Miramichi; step-sons: Fred Jenkins (Sandra) of Moncton, and Rev. Sandy MacPherson (Brenda) of Miramichi; granddaughter, Patricia Chamberlain (Eldon Mountain), step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; brother, Dellas Williston of Shannex, Losier Hall; sisters: Shirley Kenny of Fredericton, Hilda Johnson of Miramichi, and Rita Blanchard of Blacks Harbour; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife; and he was also predeceased by his sisters: Iona Blanchard and Thelma Kinsella, brothers: Ivan, Earl, Ira, Harvey Jr., Lou, and Wayne Williston.
Family and friends attended an outdoor funeral service that was held for Max at the Black River Community Cemetery on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 2 PM with Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight officiating. Music for the service was provided by Lois McKinnon and members of St. Andrew’s United Church Choir. The hymns were “Here I Am, Lord” and “When the Ross is Called Up Yonder”. The scripture reading were read by Patricia Chamberlain and Barb Doucet.
Active pallbearers were Paul Rose, Romeo Manuel, Ernest Fowlie, Rick Forrest, Colin Welner and Mark Williston. Honorary pallbearers were Rick MacDonald, Robert Tozer, Les Lewis, David Savoy and Peter Malley.
As per updated phase 2 COVID-19 regulations, masks remain mandatory in all public places, and social distancing is still required between those who are not friends and family.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Andrew’s United Church, St. Andrew’s United Church Community Kitchen, or Black River Community Cemetery would be appreciated by the family.
