In Loving Memory of Mary Budek
On Saturday June 12, 2021, Mary Budek (née Niemiec) passed away at age 98 at the Holy Family Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Many thanks to all the staff at Holy Family for their care and compassion for her through the years.
Mom was born in 1923 to Martin and Antonina Niemiec in Ropczyce, Poland. She immigrated to Canada and made Winnipeg, Manitoba home. She had seven children. For the seven of us children she was our first love, the first heartbeat we felt and heard, the first voice, the first laugh, the first cry, the first touch, the first hug, the first sigh, and her love was unconditional.
She Loved her family.
Children: Charles Maximilian (wife Wendy), Adam Lenkowski, Donna Budek, Danny Budek
Children that passed away to soon: Eva Lenkowski (2001), Steve Lenkowski (2019), Cecilia Lenkowski (2015),
Grandchildren: Chad, Tracy, Rachel, Vanessa, Justin, Amanda
Great-Grandchildren: Emma, Sara, Harlan, Eli, Hugo, Ottis, Noelle
She will be remembered fondly by numerous extended family members, friends and neighbours. She was beautiful, sweet, dramatic, colourful, expressive, emotional, sensitive, strong, brave, vulnerable, proud, and generous.
She didn’t always have an easy life….But the world did not make her hard.
She was happy and believed the world was a beautiful place filled with music, song, dance, connections, stories, love, laughter, family, friends, great neighbours, flowers, food and a good garden.
She was charming and very entertaining. She sang and broke into song quite naturally. She told stories very expressively. She loved to laugh, she laughed hard… from the belly and it was contagious. But most importantly she loved to make everyone else laugh, always bringing joy.
She enjoyed watching hockey with her sons, her team was the Montreal Canadiens.
She loved Victor on the Young and the Restless, but could not understand what he has doing onboard the ship in the movie Titanic.
She loved Michael Bublé and his hair.
She loved the colour red.
She loved and being barefoot.
She was a great cook making her famous perogies and potato salad.
There is no more pain, there is peace now…and she will live on in our hearts and our memories.
When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me whispering words of wisdom.. Let it Be.
Mom, we will see you in our dreams, you are now in the arms of the angels.
