Obituary for Lok Hi William Chang
March 24, 2000 – May 20, 2021
Lok Hi William Chang, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021. He will be forever remembered by his surviving wife, Wing Yuk, son Vincent, daughter Sabrina, and an extended network of family and friends.
William was born in Seychelles on March 24,1933, the third of eight siblings. He had a happy island life till midteens when his family decided to move to Hong Kong. He finished high school in Hong Kong and started working as a clerk at Union Insurance, the leading insurance company then. He prided himself on being part of the Royal Hong Kong Auxilliary Police Force and participated in protecting HK residents from unrest caused by local communists.
William was very active and loved the outdoors, especially passionate with football. Throughout his life, he had formed countless football teams and leagues and had won numerous championships. He loved teaching kids and supporting the ‘underdogs’. He had an exclusive collection of videotapes documenting football world cup since the 80‘s and he could provide detailed description of a particular goal by a specific player anytime.
He retired from being an insurance underwriter for New Zealand Insurance Co. in 1990 and moved to Vancouver, Canada and officially began his happy retirement life here.
William was a devoted family man who strived to nurture us in the happiest environment. He didn’t mind sharing and doing all sorts of household chores and his cooking skills were ranked the best in the family. He was a man of few words but he was a man of many kind actions. His relaxed nature had made it so easy to make friends with people from all walks of life, various cultures, and age groups. Truly multi-cultural.
He will be missed and will forever stay in our hearts!
