Laura Grainger
(March 6, 1924 – December 1, 2021)
Passed away peacefully at the Smith’s Falls hospital on Wednesday, December 1 at the age of 97. She has gone to join her beloved husband Rod to whom she was truly devoted!! Loving mother of: Carol Dostaler (Francois), Eileen Gannon (Barry), Joan Tensen (Joe), Debbie Brown (Brian) and Chris Grainger. Loving grandmother of: Robin, Rachel, Kerry, Laurie, Adam, Amy, Melissa, Megan & Mallory. Loving great grandmother of: Colton, Danica, Kaelynn, Connor, Gavin, Olivia, Maverick, Kayla, Alysha & Diego. Loving great-great grandmother of: Braeh. Predeceased by much loved great grandson Brandon. Laura was born in Eckington, England where she grew up and eventually joined the RAF (Royal Air Force). She was a LACW (Leading Aircraftwoman) in the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force) and worked on the airplanes as an electrician. It was while working at RAF Station Bassingbourn in 1946 that she met Rod. He was in the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) and had flown over to England in a military plane named the Charlie William. Laura climbed on board to take a look and was caught red-handed by Rod and that was the beginning of a 70+ year love story!! They were married in England and came over to Canada in 1947 where they raised their family. Upon Rod’s retirement in 1973 they purchased a hobby farm on Cty Rd 44 south of Kemptville which they named Tanglewood. They spent many happy years with their horses, goats, chickens, ducks and many cats & dogs. Laura turned her hand to many things during her married life and she excelled at all of them. They included millinery, sewing, gardening, tole painting & cake decorating. She taught cake decorating classes to numerous people in the Kemptville area. There will be no visitation and there will be a private family gathering to celebrate her life. For those who wish, donations to the Big Sky Ranch would be appreciated by the family.
