Keith Sanderson 2021

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Keith Sanderson on March 15, 2021, at Parkstone Enhanced Care in Halifax.
Born in 1933 to David and Mildred, Keith grew up in Montreal, a city that always remained close to his heart. Keith started working at an early age, beginning by delivering newspapers and then telegrams. While working, he studied accounting at night at Sir George Williams University. He graduated with a B.Comm and went on to complete both his CA, and later his RIA, with distinction for the highest achievement. In his youth, he enjoyed playing hockey, and was proud to earn his private pilot’s license, leading to several adventures that later became oft-told family stories.
Keith met his beloved wife, Myrna in Montreal. They later moved to Cape Breton, where they raised their family and made many friends over nearly 50 years, first in Coxheath and later in Sydney.
Keith worked as a chartered accountant, including at the Cape Breton Development Corporation, and eventually running his own accounting business and teaching at UCCB (Cape Breton University) until he retired. In his spare time, Keith had many hobbies, from his stamp collection to beekeeping and wine making. He loved music. He and Myrna went to many concerts in Sydney, and he returned to playing his violin when he retired. He took up bridge and played for many years. He also enthusiastically researched his family’s roots; he was very happy to be able to travel to Scotland several times to get to know his extended family. Keith generously volunteered his time and accounting skills to various organizations, including the C.B. Bridge Club and the Friends of the McConnell Library. He always encouraged the education of his children and grandchildren and he took great pride in their accomplishments.
Keith was predeceased by his wife, Myrna (2020) and is survived by his sister, Gail Sanderson; his children, Laura (Greg), Heather (Craig) and Brian (Kelly); his five grandchildren, Andrew Johnston (Emily), Ava Sanderson, Christine Johnston, Julia Sanderson, Claire Sanderson, and step-grandson, Owen Benjamin. Keith was predeceased by his brother, Peter.
The family would like to thank Parkstone for the care and compassion shown to Keith.
A funeral service followed by interment at the Alfred Smith Cemetery in Sydney River will be held later in the year.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McConnell Memorial Library, the Old Sydney Society or a charity of your choice.
