Obituary
Joyce Norma Gordon (Amyotte) of Rolling River First Nation passed away in her sleep at the Brandon Regional Hospital Health Centre on Sunday, August 29, 2021. Joyce was 59 years old.
Joyce was born on November 30, 1961 in Erickson, Manitoba. Joyce was raised be her parent Violet Bird and Norman Amyotte. They are now both deceased. Joyce and her siblings we raised in the Erickson and Onanole area as both her parents were employed at Riding Mountain National Park.
Joyce is survived by her sisters Thelma Noctor (Steven) of Brandon, Marcel Bird of Rolling River, Florestine Lee of Halifax, N.S., Terry Palmer, (Victor P.) of Winnipeg, Cheryl Baffoe (Ebu B,) of Thompson, Connie Amyotte (Don R.) of Winnipeg. Joyce was part of the second family.
Siblings from the first family who are now deceased include her brother Nelson Bird (Bernice S. of RRFN) sister Doris Bird (Richard C) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Geraldine Smoke (Clayton S) of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Surviving is Pearl Laquette (George L.) her oldest sister in Dauphin, Manitoba.
When Joyce left home she lived in Brandon for several years before moving to Winnipeg. Joyce had seven children, Stephen McKay, Christopher Amyotte, Jennifer Amyotte, Murphy Amyotte, Corey Amyotte, Murphy Amyotte, Corey Amyotte, Issac Ndlovu and Michael Ndlovu.
Joyce was married to Richard Ndlovu for several years. They separated and she met Ronnie Gladue, whom she was in a committed relationship until he passed away. After Ronnie passed away Joyce remained in Winnipeg for several years. She retired to Rolling River due to ill health.
Joyce was an avid seamstress, designing and sewing traditional skirts, star blankets, bags and jewellery. She attended Brandon University where she trained to become a teacher. She taught individuals and groups how to sew. During her classes she talked about how her Dad and how she learned about the trickster through use of puppets.
In the last several years Joyce’s health really deteriorated, diabetes really had a negative impact on her quality of life.
Joyce had a great sense of humor, she loved traveling and hitchhiking When she was healthy. Joyce is survived by numerous grandchildren and she loved them all and miss the talks they had with her.
