Joseph Homer “Jay” Atkins – age 78 of Corryton, TN passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at University of TN Medical Center.
He was born April 29, 1943 to the late Joseph G. Atkins and Mary Etta Atkins. Also preceded in death by Delores Atkins; and nephew Joseph R. Pursiful.
Survived by his wife, Brenda Strickland and their daughters, Carol (Danny) Vandergriff, Julie (Jonathan) Sams, Krystal (Doug) Mays, Emma (Alexandrea) Strickland, Ashley (Jeremy) Hay, Carrie Lane, Aimee (Simon) Harper; sons, Chris (Becky) Summerfield and Bill Harper; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Dorthy Pursiful and Elizabeth Copeland; special nieces and nephews, Wes (Jan) Pursiful, Steve (Donna) Pursiful, and Brenda Pursiful; and best friend, Kenny (Tonya) Brown.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Bridges Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 7:00 PM with Rev. Bill Harper officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM on Thursday at Bridges Funeral Home and go in procession to Berry Highland South for an 11:00 AM interment. Pallbearers: Payne Seiber, Logan Maples, Angel Meza, Jonathan Washington, Jeremy Hay, Doug Mays and Chris Summerfield. The family respectfully requests that face coverings be worn to all services.
