John S Jarus Thursday June 17th 2021

John S. Jarus died peacefully at Trillium Health Partners – Mississauga Hospital on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the age of 94. Loving husband to the late Kathleen, his wife of 65 years, and proud father of Wayne (Barbara), Brian (Valerie) and Norman (late Julie-Anne), grandfather to Owen, Kevin (Marisa) and Lee (Courtney), and great-grandfather to Barrett, Ember and Violet. Also survived by his sister Mary. Predeceased by his parents Steven and Sophia, his brother Peter and his sister Kathleen.
John grew up on Manitoulin Island and graduated from high school in Bracebridge. He worked at Inco (Vale) in Copper Cliff for 35 years and he and Kathleen lived in Sudbury until 1985, when they moved to Burlington to be closer to family. Both were active in the Anglican Church and they had a busy social life that included square dancing and playing competitive bridge. John was devoted to his family and his greatest joy was spending time with them. A great listener, with a wonderful sense of humour, he was always ready for a good laugh. Puzzles, watching baseball, and playing Scrabble with family were some of his favourite pastimes. Always open to new ideas, he started colouring in his later years, revealing an artistic side that surprised everyone. He had an aptitude for combining colours and took great pride in his work. John will be remembered for his kindness and compassion, the qualities he valued most in others. He will forever be loved and missed deeply.
A private funeral service will be held at Smith’s Funeral Homes in Burlington on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. For those who wish, donations in memory of John to the charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
