McCarthy, John Eldon
It is with a bittersweet mix of sorrow and relief that we share with you the passing of
our beloved dad. John ‘Eldon’ McCarthy, in his 91st year, passed away on Wednesday
September 15th surrounded by family.
Eldon was born on July 3, 1930 to John & Helen McCarthy in Sault Ste. Marie.
Raised in the rugged north of Ontario he grew up to be the kind, hardworking,
blueberry loving guy that we all knew. He was a very gentle soul with a cheeky sense of
humour, an avid armchair athlete in his later years, and dished out some of the best
hugs ever. He was our man, our dad, our grampie and he is in our heart and soul.
He will be fondly and forever remembered in the hearts of his former wife, Joan and his
children, Loryne (Duane), Beth (Dan), Tracey and Shaun (Kim). To cherish his memories
and bear hugs are his grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Kaitlan and Crista, Candace, Josh
and Brandon.
His great granddaughters, Ruby, Stella and Vivian have been blessed to know him too.
Eldon is also survived by his brothers Gerry, Clare and many nieces and nephews.
You gave us life, you gave us love, you made life worth living and now you’ve taken
your well earned rest. We love you so much and although we will miss you incredibly it’s
time to say goodbye. Thank you Dad for everything.
The family would like to thank everyone who was a part of his life, the caregivers at
Caressant Care for their compassion during these challenging times and for the kind
messages and tokens of love, comfort and support of so many.

There will be a private service to celebrate Eldon’s life.
Donations in memory of Eldon may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Dods & McNair
Funeral Home, Orangeville.
