Joe Marion February 19 1933 June 09 2021

Joe Marion
February 19, 1933 – June 09, 2021

In loving memory of our Dad, Grampa/Pere, Great Grampa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Joe Marion.
Dad was the youngest of 14 children born in Ste. Amelie Manitoba to Marie and Joseph Marion. He moved to Ontario at the age of 14 and started working for Ontario Hydro by age 15. After working other jobs including truck driving with his brothers, he started at the Dryden Pulp and Paper Mill where he worked for 35 years. Dad retired as a Shipping and Warehouse Foreman in 1991.
In 1952 Dad met his future wife Myrna Willard while she was a waitress at the Lenver Inn restaurant. They married in 1953, and started a wonderful long life of 65 years together, raising their 8 children.
Upon retiring in 1991, Dad and Mom started their life as “Snowbirds” travelling to the sunny south for the next 19 years. While he continued to be involved with our community in Dryden with curling, helping at Moose Hall events, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and being a dedicated Knights of Columbus member, Dad also immersed himself in the life of a Snowbird. He was involved with many aspects of RV Park living in Yuma Arizona, including shuffling, talent & variety shows, ice cream nights, and many other events. They developed lifelong friendships and memories living both there and here in Dryden. Many trips were also taken camping in one of their various RVs around Dryden and throughout Canada. They had many adventures travelling with their camping groups and with family.
Dad’s family was the centre of his life; fun times at camp on Thunder Lake for many years, buying new cars on the days of his daughters’ weddings, hunting, fishing, and many family gatherings in our home on Wood St. He lovingly supported his kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all their activities. For multi generations, Dad and Mom were always cheering in the stands at the arena, school gyms, baseball fields, and curling clubs. He took great pride in all their accomplishments, and travelled near and far to be a part of special events such as graduations and weddings.
Health concerns began in 2010, and Mom and Dad no longer travelled to their winter home in Arizona. It was fortunate they were able to go back after for a few years with some of their kids to visit their Yuma friends. They moved to Patricia Gardens in 2013 and Dad was involved with many activities there as well, such as shuffling and the dress up days. In 2017, he moved to Princess Court where he received wonderful care with his health needs. Throughout all this, Dad maintained his great sense of humour.
Joe is survived by his 8 children/spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren:
Cecille Boughner (Jennifer, Todd/Dallas/Chelsea, Joe/Amy/Maggie); Dave and Deana Marion (Tannis/Joel/Addison/Rya, Darryl); Doug and Frances Marion (Ashley, Cole/Gulshat/James/Martin, Elliott/Melissa, Chayse/Jessica); Jeff and Lucille Marion (Mark/Stacy/Donty, Patti, Tyler/Samantha/Teisha/Antonne/Nolan/Donovan/Teigan, Michelle/Jason/Mia, Donovan/Abigail/Adriel/Lily/Lincoln); Liz and Bill Lundstrom (Blaire/Troy/Molly/Hanna/Jacob, Trisha); Yvonne and Wayne Kerr; Mollie and Robert Kamm (Kyle, Melissa/Landon); Carol and Bob Gardam (Jacob/Alanna, Kevin/Melissa, Emilie)
He is also survived by his sister Bertine Roussin, sister-in-law Louise Marion, and many other relatives.
Joe is pre-deceased by his wife Myrna (2018), son-in-law Tom Boughner (2018), his parents and siblings, as well as many other relatives on both sides of the family.
A big thank you from our family to Dr. Moir, Dr. Cortens, Nurse Practitioner Sarah, and all the staff at Princess Court, as well as the staff at Patricia Gardens and the Dryden Regional Health Centre, for helping care for our Dad over the years.
A Private Family Funeral Mass will be held in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Alan Campeau officiating. Livestream of the service will take place Monday June 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Interment of ashes will take place in the Dryden Cemetery. A Celebration of Dad’s life will be held next summer (2022) for our extended family and friends. Date and location will be determined.
