Joan Dorothy Grace Young

It is with tremendous sadness and broken hearts that we, the family of Joan Dorothy “Grace” Mary (nee: Griffin) Young, announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, in Cambridge, Ontario.
Born on January 26, 1929, in Dublin, Northern Ireland, Grace was the daughter of the late John Michael and Louisa (nee: Murphy) Griffin.
Grace began working at the age of 14, for Drummonds. At the age of 23, Grace and her 2 daughters Louise and Ann boarded the Ship “Columbia” for a voyage from Cobh, Northern Ireland to Montreal, Quebec, where her husband Bill was waiting. The family lived in Montreal for several years, welcoming Albert and his brother John to their family. In 1972, the family moved to Mississauga, Ontario, where they welcomed another son, Alexander, and where they remained until 2007, when Grace, Louise, and her son Michael, John, Alexander moved to Cambridge, Ontario.
Besides her parents, Grace was predeceased by the love of her life for 54 years, William “Bill” Young; brothers, Thomas “Tommy” and John; sister, Louisa; sister-in-law, Penny Griffin, and daughter, Ann. Grace is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Left to mourn are her sons Albert (Patti), John and Alexander; daughter Louise Gale; niece Debbie Griffin, nephew Wayne Griffin, and 3 grandchildren, Michael Gale, Shawn, and Samantha Young.
We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Dr. Matsuda, the Palliative Care Drs. Hollings and Sando, their medical assistant Michelle, and to the PSW’s of Care Partners and Paramed.
In keeping with Grace’s wishes, there will be a private family Memorial Service to celebrate her life at the Turner & Porter Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga. Interment will take place at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 9th line and Dundas St. E.
