Jimmy Tortyna Sept 12 1944 Aug 23 2021

Jimmy Peter Tortyna passed away Sunday August 23, 2021, at St. Paul’s hospital in Vancouver B.C. at the age of seventy-six.
He is survived by his wife Anne Tortyna, by his three children, Tanya Tortyna (Ryan Vanderspek), Christopher Tortyna (Catherine Knight) and Jeffrey Tortyna (Jennifer Flasko), and by his two grandchildren, Adler and Escher Flasko-Tortyna.
Jimmy was born on September 12, 1944, at Grace hospital in Vancouver to parents Piotr and Anna Tortyna.
He followed his father, mother, and sister Alvena all over the Lower Mainland as Piotr bought and sold businesses and homes across the city, sowing the oats of Jimmy’s entrepreneurial spirit. He spent much of his youth working on the Princess cruise line from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico.
Having a fondness for beaches and tropical living, Jimmy spent much of the 60’s in Mexico, travelling and having adventures with his friends – from cruising in what they would call the Batmobile, to stealing soccer balls right off the field midgame. He loved travel more than anything else.
In 1972, he met Anne Pauloff who would later become the mother of his children, Tanya, Christopher, and Jeffrey.
He embarked on multiple entrepreneurial business ventures; some were failures, but luckily, most were successes. A man of few, if any, regrets, Jim lived a life fuller than most could ever hope for.
Privately generous but publicly stubborn and contrarian, we will always love and remember him as our curmudgeonly pops as he looks up at us from his throne.
We love you Jimmy, rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association are greatly appreciated.
