GRUNDMAN, Irving
Peacefully, after a short illness, on Friday, February 26, 2021 in his ninety-third year. Beloved and devoted husband of the late Goldie Gail (nee Schreiber) for sixty years. Proud father and father-in-law of Howard Grundman and Joanne Besner, Gary Grundman and Nancy Lerner, Peter Fingold and the late Pamela Grundman. Loving Grandpa of Michael, Jamie, and David Grundman; Carolyn, Alissa, and Melanie Fingold. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Elynn and the late Gerry Grundman, the late George Schreiber, the late Sylvia, and the late Mac Shrier. Special Uncle to all his nieces and nephews.
Irving was born in Montreal on July 23, 1928 to the late Morris and late Bessie (Epstein). He had an exceptional business career He worked alongside his father in the meat industry, founded Laurentian Lanes in 1959 with his lifelong friend the late Jack Prehogan, elected City Councillor in 1968 serving St. Laurent citizens for over 35 years while taking a leading role in the development of the St Laurent Technoparc as executive chairman, appointed President of the Montreal Forum in 1972 experiencing five Stanley Cup wins including one as General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens in 1979. He volunteered his services for many community organizations including the Jewish General Hospital where he was a proud volunteer for over 20 years.
The family wishes to thank the ICU and Palliative Care departments at the JGH for their exceptional care and compassion. Heartfelt thanks to Alma, Cora, and Marilyn for their love and devotion.
Irving will be fondly remembered for the respect he had for everyone and his loving kindness to his family and cherished friends.
