Irène Marie SAULNIER
December 30, 1920 – December 13, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear aunt Irene Saulnier on Monday, December 13th at the Tideview Terrace in Digby, NS, at the age of 100 years. Born in Little Brook, NS, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin LeBlanc and the late Émélie LeBlanc.
She was predeceased by her husband, Léo Olivier Saulnier; her sisters, Regine Maurice (Milo), Anita Comeau (Théodore) and Yvonne LeBlanc (Alphée), and her brother, Adolphe LeBlanc (Évélina). Having no children, she considered her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews as her family. She is survived on the LeBlanc’s side of the family by: Daniel Comeau (Kaye), Benjamin et Émilie; Colène Comeau (Francis); Janice LeBlanc (late Dickie), Bernard, Anie; Réal LeBlanc (Donna), Réal son; Simon LeBlanc (Donna), Jason, Joline, Michelle; Renette LeBlanc-Cormier (Normand); Elaine Melanson (late Alphonse), Lise, Briand; Simone Saulnier (Alfred), Clarette, Arlice, Joline, Léone. On the Saulnier side of the family, she is survived by: Lise Saulnier, Russell Saulnier (Donna), Olivia; Marc Saulnier (Donna); Mariette Belliveau (Michel), Jean-Marc; Estelle Comeau, Harry; the late Anna Comeau (Félix), Lianne.
Irene will be greatly missed by her neighbours in Little Brook and by the many friends she made during her long life, thanks to her endearing personality and her « grande joie de vivre ».
Irene was a hairdresser in her home for some 30 years. She was very passionate about music and took advantage of the many gatherings at her home during the holidays or for special anniversaries to play the organ, the piano, the accordion or the harmonica. However, what made her even happier was to have everyone sing along with her.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Admiral House at Tideview Terrace for their devoted care of our dear aunt and especially for all the love and affection they showed her during her seven years at the home.
The Meteghan Funeral Home will be in charge of funeral arrangements. A mass and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Her ashes will be interred in the St Mary’s Cemetery in Church Point.
For those who wish, a donation can be made to the Clare Food Bank Society or to the Notre-Dame d’Acadie Parish for the maintenance of the Church Point Cemetery.

C’est avec une grande tristesse que nous vous annonçons le décès de notre chère tante Irène Saulnier survenu le lundi 13 décembre au Tideview Terrace à Digby (N.-É.) à l’âge de 100 ans. Née au Petit-Ruisseau (N.-É.), elle était la fille de feu Benjamin LeBlanc et de feue Émélie LeBlanc.
Elle a été prédécédée dans la mort par son époux Léo Olivier Saulnier; ses sœurs, Régine Maurice (Milo), Anita Comeau (Théodore) et Yvonne LeBlanc (Alphée), ainsi que son frère, Adolphe LeBlanc (Évélina). N’ayant pas d’enfants, elle considérait ses neveux, ses nièces, ses petits-neveux et ses petites-nièces comme sa famille. Elle laisse dans le deuil du côté de la famille LeBlanc : Daniel Comeau (Kaye), Benjamin et Émilie; Colène Comeau (Francis); Janice LeBlanc (feu Dickie), Bernard, Anie; Réal LeBlanc (Donna), Réal fils; Simon LeBlanc (Donna), Jason, Joline, Michelle; Renette LeBlanc-Cormier (Normand); Elaine Melanson (feu Alphonse), Lise, Briand; Simone Saulnier (Alfred), Clarette, Arlice, Joline, Léone. Du coté de la famille Saulnier, elle laisse dans le deuil: Lise Saulnier, Russell Saulnier (Donna), Olivia; Marc Saulnier (Donna); Mariette Belliveau (Michel), Jean-Marc; Estelle Comeau, Harry; feue Anna Comeau (Félix), Lianne.
Irène manquera beaucoup à ses voisins du Petit-Ruisseau et à ses nombreux amis qu’elle s’était faits au cours de sa longue vie, grâce à sa personnalité fort attachante et à sa grande joie de vivre.
Irène a exercé son métier de coiffeuse dans sa maison pendant quelque 30 ans. Elle était une grande passionée de musique et profitait des nombreux rassemblements chez elle durant les fêtes ou lors d’anniversaires pour jouer soit de l’orgue, du piano, de l’accordéon ou encore de l’harmonica. Mais ce qui la rendait encore plus heureuse était que tous réunis puissent chanter ensemble.
Nous tenons à remercier chaleureusement tout le personnel soignant au Admiral House au Tideview Terrace pour les soins prodigués à notre chère tante et particulièrement pour tout l’amour et l’affection qu’ils lui ont manifesté durant ses sept années passées au foyer.
La Maison funéraire de Meteghan sera chargée des arrangements funéraires. Une messe et une célébration de vie auront lieu à une date ultérieure. Ses cendres seront inhumées dans le cimetière Sainte-Marie à la Pointe-de-l’Église.
Pour ceux et celles qui le souhaitent, un don peut être fait au Clare Food Bank Society ou à la paroisse Notre-Dame d’Acadie pour l’entretien du cimetière de la Pointe-de-l’Église.
