With tremendous sadness the family of Iona McPhee announces her passing on August 28, 2021 at the age of 93 years.
Iona was born and raised in Brookdale Manitoba, the youngest of three children to Ralph and Agnes Chisholm.
After moving to Winnipeg, marrying and starting her family,
Iona worked for the Royal Bank of Canada for 35 years at the Winnipeg main office. She started as a teller and ended her career as a nonnegotiable securities officer. She was very capable in her job and highly respected.
Mom had a love of music and dance and she cultivated many interests outside of her employment.
She was a member of the Manitoba Music Festival, Winnipeg Music Competition Festival, Wednesday Morning Musical, Winnipeg Gilbert and Sullivan Society, PEO, Harrow United Church UCW and Royal Bank Seniors.
Her love of dance led her to join the Royal Scottish Country, English Country and Country Line dance groups. Her involvement in the Royal Scottish Country Dance group in turn led her to volunteering at Folklorama where she ultimately became Mayor of Mug Pub one year.
After retirement, volunteering became a passion for Mom. She volunteered for the Red Cross, Grace Hospital, Pan Am Games, Disability Olympics, Cancer Society and Winnipeg Symphony among others. She said she received much more back than she gave when she volunteered. Mom was a loving mother. She was also a classy, professional, vibrant and fun-loving woman, ahead of her time.
Mom was recently predeceased by her beloved son, Bob McPhee, of Calgary Alberta. She was also predeceased by her parents Agnes and Ralph Chisholm, brother Laurence Chisholm and sister Ralphena (Sis) Holmes.
Mom will be deeply missed by her loving family members including daughter Bonnie McPhee and son in law Jim Prokopanko, grandsons Matt and Chris Prokopanko (Allisa) and great grandchildren Cora and Elliot Prokopanko all of Minneapolis, niece Marilyn Kucherawy of Calgary, sister in law Kae Nordman and nephews Greg and Grant Nordman of Winnipeg.
A Special thank you to all the staff at Brightwater Senior Living and Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care of Mom.
A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Sept 24, at 10:00 am at Harrow United Church. COVID protocols will be observed.
