Passed away peacefully at the Mississauga Hospital on August 2nd at the age of 87. He will be sadly missed by his loving and dedicated wife of 54 years, Erika, and his daughter’s Tanja (Michael) and their children Amanda and Liam, and Ira (Mitchell). Before the grandchildren, he had the grand golden retrievers, all of them equally adored his walks and love. He is survived by his brother Hans, and predeceased by his siblings; Waltraud, Gunnard, Harald, Reinhard and Benita. He is lovingly remembered by his many Kargel and Mehrkens relatives. Ilmar was born in Latvia, a German family immigrating to Canada in 1954, settling in Toronto. He spent his life applying his carpentry trade to selflessly provide for his family, his generosity knew no bounds. He was highly respected for his precise work, and competent skill, and was very well-liked for his affable, and kind personality. Incredibly charming with a dashing personality, he met his beautiful young wife at the German Club downtown Toronto and they lived happily together in Mississauga for 50 years. He had a smile that could melt glaciers. The family would like to thank the dedicated health care workers at the Mississauga Hospital. Cremation has already taken place, and a private service will be held at a later date. Cheers to you dad.
