Herb deVeer 2021

Obituary of Herb deVeer
Herbert Peter DeVeer was born in Acme, Alberta on May 11, 1929 to Gerhard and Katherine DeVeer. He peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of May 29, 2021 at the Ridgevalley Home, Crooked Creek, Alberta.
Dad was one year old when his family moved to Crooked Creek to homestead. He worked hard together with his siblings and endured the hardships of a new area.
Dad met the Lord and was baptized on July 9, 1941. His faith was very precious to him and he had a longing to go to heaven.
Dad married Elisabeth Isaak on July 23, 1957 in Rosenort, Manitoba. They raised four children; two girls and two boys. In 1988 they lost their youngest son, Gerald, in an accident.
In 1985 Mom and Dad moved to Heart Valley, Alberta. He continued his mechanic work and had a chicken farm. They enjoyed the time spent there but after they retired, they moved back to Crooked Creek. Mom passed away on July 7, 2010.
On September 2, 2011 he married Laverna Schartner. When she got sick and needed more care, they moved to Ridgevalley Home. She passed away on December 25, 2015.
In his younger years, Dad enjoyed driving truck, hauling lumber and gravel. During winters in their early years, Dad moved his family to the sawmill where he worked alongside his neighbors. He was also a farmer and a mechanic; working from his shop on the yard. He made many friends in the shop; fixing whatever their needs were. He could repair anything; nothing was too hard for him. Breakdowns on the farm were not a source of frustration; they were an opportunity to do what he loved. He liked to travel and go camping with his family. He enjoyed history and was an avid reader and so his bookshelves were full. He was a great storyteller, relating happenings that he encountered in the early years.
Left to mourn his passing are his children: Louise, Crooked Creek, AB; Marilyn, Valleyview, AB; Brian and Della, Leduc, AB. Grandchildren: Shawn, Dayna, Mallory, Devon, and Dustin. Two sisters, Beth Taylor, Red Deer, AB; Florence Isaac, Edmonton, AB. Many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife Betty, wife Laverna, son Gerald, son-in-law Dwight, brother Walter and Elsie, brother Frank and Marie Friesen, his sisters Eleanor and Sam Toews, Anna and George Isaac, brothers-in-law Pete Isaac and Jim Taylor.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Herb deVeer 2021..
