Helen Maddaford Thursday June 3rd 2021

It is with great sadness that Helen Maddaford passed away at home the evening of June 3rd with her family by her side. Helen was married to Ernest Maddaford (deceased) and has four children, Thane (Colleen), Colleen (Danny), Heather (Murray) and Shawn (Caroline), ten grandchildren (Michael, Jarad, Brenden, Kelsey, Shannon, Shane, Erin, Graham, Derek, and Declan) and three greatgrandchildren (Brooklyn, Cameron and Emma).
Helen grew up and was a lifelong resident of Cooks Creek, Manitoba. Helen’s passions were focused on the outdoors. Helen and Ernie enjoyed golfing with friends at many golf courses across Manitoba. She loved to watch golf in the comfort of her own home in recent years. Mom’s absolutely cherished gardening, patiently waiting for her seed catalogues to arrive in the mail in early spring, meticulously reading each page to select the latest vegetable varieties to try. She loved the trips to the greenhouses with her friend Elaine, always coming home with a car filled with flowers. She worked long hours in the garden which helped keep her mobile and able to touch her toes into her 80’s. She gardened up until the fall of 2020, even when walking was difficult, never wanting to give up her passion. Mom also loved watching her birds, feeding the chickadees in the winter and finches and hummingbirds in the summer. She loved her song sparrows, calling them sweetie and waiting for them to call back. Hearing the call of the song sparrow will always remind us of mom.
Camping was also a favorite past time of mom and dad, and mom continued to enjoy going to Betula with Thane and Colleen, Big Whiteshell Lake with Colleen and Danny, and Beresford with Heather and Murray, and also to the remote backcountry islands of Georgian Bay, Ontario with her son Shawn and his family. There are many fond memories of enjoying a bonfire, fish fry and a glass of wine to end a perfect day.
In earlier years Helen was an avid curler at the Hazelridge and Dugald Curling Clubs and even scored a rare eight ender.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Beausejour Hospital, Dr Jeff Wiebe, and Interlake Eastman Home and Palliative Care for their care and support at the hospital and during her return home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Humane Society or an animal shelter of your choice are appreciated. A celebration of life is anticipated in Aug/Sept of 2021.
