It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Son, Brother and Uncle, Gordon who died of heart disease at his home in Victoria on Sunday, May 31st, 2021. In the first thirty years of his life, Gordon was an active outdoorsman, hockey and rugby player, musician (accordion and saxophone) and in high school was an active member of student government. He attended the University of British Columbia and received his Bachelor of Commerce in 1986. Gordon worked in sawmills, land surveying, construction and as a hard rock driller to support his way through University.
Later in life, he struggled with the effects of mental illness but continued to work as a volunteer in Victoria at the Goodwill Thrift store, Theatre Inconnu, Shakespeare in the Park and at his Cooperative housing residence. His recent interests included literature, languages, theatre and compiling a large music collection. Gordon had a passion for helping others and was a member and contributor of Amnesty International and World Vision of Canada.
Throughout his life he was known to his family and friends as a gentle, kind and thoughtful person with a great sense of humour. Gordon is survived by his father, Alan, brothers, Andrew, John (Betty-Ann), Glen (Elena), sister, Katherine, his nieces/nephews, James (Mya), Kristina (Garry), Daniel (Jade), Martina, Claudia and great-nephew, Cedric. He is predeceased by his mother, Gladys Knappett (Andrews) in 2007. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice. No service will be held by request.
I learned not to fear infinity, The far field, the windy cliffs of forever, The dying of time in the white light of tomorrow. The wheel turning away from itself, the sprawl of the wave, the on-coming water.
