Glen Juniper 1939 2021

Obituary of Glen Juniper
It is with very sad hearts that the family of Glen Juniper announces his passing on June 10, 2021 at Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound. Born in Meaford on April 22, 1939, Glen was one of five children born to the late Clesson and Doris Juniper (nee Taylor). In Glen’s early teen years, his life goals were to have a home, a decent job and a family. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Judy Briggs and they just celebrated 64 years of marriage on May 25, 2021.
Glen was the very proud father of three children, his son Lee Juniper and his wife, Chris, of Kitchener, his son Rob Juniper and his wife, Penny and his daughter Karen Juniper and her partner, Dan Vaile of Windsor. He was so very happy and always sporting a big smile whenever he spoke of his seven grandchildren, Amber Jenings (Jason), Eric Juniper (Sarah), Greg Juniper (Holly), Alex and Zachary Juniper, Brianna and Braeden Vaile and great-grandchildren, Elliott, Isobel, Liam, Olivia, Raylan and Jayce. Glen will be fondly remembered by his in-laws, Ted Briggs and his wife, Mary and step-daughter, Connie of South Bruce Peninsula and Mary Grace-Briggs of Smith Falls and by his many nieces and nephews and their families. Glen will be missed by his cousins and the many friends he knew through sports and business communities. Glen was blessed to have four very special mentors with whom he had life-long friendships. These men, all from the Owen Sound area, were great role models for him – Gerry Hilchey, Harvey Isherwood, Roy Thede and Clancy Wark. Glen was predeceased by his stepfather, Al Harper, his siblings, Loretta, Carl, Lloyd and Larry Juniper and his in-laws, Patrick Briggs and Rick Briggs (Patricia).
His work ethic with the Scarfe Paint Co. led to transfers to Brantford, Kitchener and Ottawa where at age 24 he became the youngest person ever to hold the title of Eastern Ontario Sales Manager. After several years in Ottawa, he longed to come back home to fulfill his dream of having his own store. After opening the first store in 1969 on 9th Street, he expanded to a larger one on 10th Street and finally another in Georgian Bluffs beside his home. He and his wife Judy enjoyed their business so much until just a few weeks ago at ages 83 and 79 both went “over to work”.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Owen Sound Lacrosse Endowment Fund (cheques payable to Community Foundation of Grey Bruce), the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation for Oncology, the Chapman House Hospice or any Owen Sound and Area Minor Sports Group would be appreciated and can be made through the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519) 376-7492. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting Glen’s online memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca
