Obituary of Gerald David Froese
Gerry was born to Jake & Erna Froese in St. Catherines on September 19, 1962 and was the happy middle child of three boys. He loved spending time with his family and friends especially his Oma and Opa Heinrichs, his cousins Dennis and Angie from Manitoba and the Neufelds. Gerry loved fishing, ice fishing and watching sports: the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, Jets and Blue Bombers were his favourite teams.
Gerry never forgot the names of people he met. Whether he went to school or church with someone, coached them in hockey, met them at a bar, worked with them laying pre-wire cables, spent time with them in Manitoba or did a Niagara winery tour for them. Gerry could play the “Mennonite Game” or “who are you related to” better than anyone. He was always interested in people and never forgot details about anyone. He spun stories, loved corny jokes and good conversation. He was also a great listener. “Frosey” was everyone’s friend. He was kind and generous and even gave his brother Mark a kidney.
In 2006 love came calling and he married his beloved Donna. They travelled almost every summer to see the Manitoba cousins in Kenora.
In 2016 he had mechanical heart valve surgery which began years of health issues. In March of this year his health declined until a recent diagnosis of general cancer.
On June 15, 2021 peacefully and surrounded by family, Gerry went to heaven. He’ll be sadly missed by his wife & best friend Donna (Epp) and furry little friends Hamish & Zeeva. He was a sweet son to Jake (2017) & Erna Froese. Nephew to Mom#2 Margaret “TM” Heinrichs. Brother to Mark and Gordon Froese. Adored uncle to Jasmine and Alexi Froese. Brother-cousin to Dennis & Cheryl Janzen and Angie & Dave Dick of Manitoba. Brother-in-law to Gerry & Nancy Epp, Ken & Karen Epp, John Epp and Evelyn & Scott Finlay.
Uncle to Kristin & Landon Stephenson (Pace & Parks), Trevor & Kaelyn Janzen (Huxon), Derek & Rachel Janzen, Ashley & Andrea-s Gerhard (Rhett), Braedon and Scott Dick all of Manitoba.
Uncle to Suzanne & Frank Fanstone (Frankie & Ian), Colleen & Mike Monfils (Nevaeh & Riley), Mike & Hayley Epp (Brayden & Matthew), Dan & Brie Epp (Preston & Carter), Nicole Epp, Heidi, Emily and Mitchell Epp, Nathan & Kendra Finlay (Jack, Knox & Kaya), Tess Finlay & Jon Leyenhorst (Julian & Zinnia) Sydnay and Elijah Finlay. Loved by The Nowak Families of Waterloo, Julia Chuang and God-Daughter Angela vonBezold. Treasured by so many more friends and family.
