MacDonald, Gerald Gregory “Greg”, age 65 of South
River Loop, Antigonish, passed away on June 7, 2021, in High-Crest
Sherbrooke Nursing Home.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Gerald B. and
Mary C. (MacGillivray) MacDonald.
Greg worked as a landscaper and then for many years with Nova
Construction. He had been an avid bowler and softball
player, later coaching ball in the local community. He loved
the Montreal Canadiens and was able to watch Game 7 against the Leafs.
A comedian, he always had something funny to say about
something.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy; children, Rebecca (Tom
Hanifen), West Arm Tracadie; Jennifer (Brandon Purdy), Great Village;
and Matt, South River; grandson, Clay Purdy; siblings, David
(Marlene), Antigonish; Karen (Andy) Sears, St. Andrews; Andre
(Debbie), Antigonish; Paul, South River; and Vincent Marchand, New
Glasgow; mother-in-law, Catherine Jean; and many nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his father-in-law,
Vincent Pitts.
Cremation has taken place. A private family funeral
will be held in on Friday at 11am, Reverend Andrew Gillies
presiding. A live stream of the funeral will be available on
the funeral home website. Burial in South River
Cemetery.
