Fred Helwig 2021

Frederick Howard Helwig, of Neustadt, passed away at SBGHC – Durham Hospital, on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. He was 72.
Born in Walkerton, Ontario, on July 19,1949, to the late Howard and Ruth (nee Krigner) Helwig. Fred enjoyed country living, and working and raising his family on the farm. When Fred wasn’t busy with his farms, he was a very generous man with his time, and very involved with volunteer work in his community – and some of the locals chuckled at his self proclaimed title as the “Unofficial Mayor of Neustadt”. Among his many activities, Fred especially loved working with the local Lion’s Club and the Neustadt Baptist Church. He even tried his hand as an author, and published a book. Fred always seemed to have a big warm smile, loved a good joke, and enjoyed socializing and making those around him laugh to brighten their day – he will be dearly missed by many.
Survived by devoted wife Lynda (nee Evans) Helwig of Neustadt. Loving father of Rina (Kevin Teeter) Helwig of London, and Erin Helwig of Elmira. Special Grandpa of Emmersen, Harrison, and Andersen. Fondly remembered by siblings Susan (Gerry) of Toronto, Murray (Debra) of Walkerton, Paul of Neustadt, Sarah of Quebec City, and Stephen of Calgary, and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents.
Cremation has taken place, and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations to the Neustadt Baptist Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Fred Helwig 2021..

  1. We are very sorry to hear of Fred dying. Our sympathies Linda and families. No words can express the loss of a dear friend!
A weird coincidence Bill was driving by Fred’s old oiling place with his daughter Tina and his son Tom recalling Fred wearing a big huge hat to oil cars. Fred always had big hugs for Bill and myself, always full of smiles and laughters, which evoked my quote “the smile from my face traveled to my heart”.
We purchased the book “Agriculture Today – A Portrait of Family Farms in Ontario.” A signed copy from Fred.
It was a joy to present such a book as gifts, great coffee table book! Such an informative, photographically and we’ll written hardcover book with our brothers and sisters, our children and students traveling to Europe on a student exchange. The book sits on a coffee table both at work and at home!
Fred had a special way to bring out the best in everyone, giving you his undivided attention. His real, humble and kind personality shone through!
Life is a collection of moments. . . U left us beautiful memories ❤️ Thank-you Fred for being a friend!

  2. Our deepest sympathy to Fred’s family. Fred, and his lovely wife, Linda, were mainstays at the annual Roots of Bruce. His enthusiasm was contagious as he sought to educate the children about pigs and the pork industry. We will definitely miss him. He was one of a kind!
