Francis’ Obituary
With sadness- and joy for a life well lived- we share the news of the passing of Francis Aucoin.
He was loved and predeceased by his parents Leo and Grace O’Quinn. Francis had the joys and fun that come from being one of fifteen children. He loved hunting, fishing, and darts with his brothers and trading recipes and impressing his sisters with his talent for cooking and baking. His siblings were not just family, but his lifelong friends. Francis loved his home in Newfoundland, but work and opportunity called him away. Time in the Royal Canadian Air Force let to a new friend from the other side of his island home who happened to be visiting his aunt in Toronto. “Why don’t you come along for a good Downhome cooked meal,” the friend asked. Not one to turn down a good feed, Francis accepted the invitation and met Loretta Costello—the girl of his dreams. 1967 was a great year for Francis. His beloved Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup and he married Loretta, beginning their 34 year adventure of laughter, tears, joy and love. It is hard to lose the ones we love, but in 2001 Loretta left her Frank, and this world, far too early for those who knew and loved her. For Francis, it was time to start another adventure—this time on his own. Luckily, he didn’t remain alone for long. Francis was welcomed back home into the warm embrace of his family. When time allowed his heart to open to another, he was reunited with his high school sweetheart, Doreen Delaney. This renewed love grew Francis’ family as he became part of the Delaneys. Many card games and festive gatherings were enjoyed by them all. Francis’ heart was so full of life and love, but on the morning of August 16th, 2021, it decided it was finally time to slow down and rest.
Francis will be missed and forever remembered by: Doreen, his loving partner for nearly 20 years; his brothers, sisters, brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, the Delaney family , and many friends.
Amanda Horne and Jennifer Aucoin will be forever grateful for a dad that was a kid at heart when the situation warranted, smart enough to know when to step aside and let Mom take care of things and strong enough to hold us up or let us go when we needed it. A dad that let us know he always loved us.
Finally, the proudest Papa in all the world will be forever loved and treasured by his grandkids: Christopher, Cassandra, Heather, and Rebecca.
Following Francis’ wishes cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers or expressions of sympathy, please remind the ones you love that you love them often, hug them an extra time before you part ways and send positive thoughts to the Toronto Maple Leafs so they win the Stanley Cup again. We all know he’ll be watching every game from the best seats in the house.
