Frances Elizabeth Downie 2021

Frances Elizabeth Downie of St. Albert passed away at home on September 3, 2021 just a few weeks before her 92nd birthday. Frances was born October 4, 1929 to Olive and Joseph MacKenzie in Wainwright, Alberta. She earned a B.Sc in Home Economics from the University of Alberta, and went on to practice as a dietitian at Alberta Hospital.
Frances married Donald M. Downie in 1952. She worked with him in their medical office until their retirement. She spent the last decade of her life as an active member of the Ravine Park on Gate community, where she had many dear friends. She also enjoyed the company and skill of Brittney, her homecare nurse for more than a year.
Frances will be remembered and missed by her family; children: Guy (Tanis), Cecily (Dino), Joseph (Elizabeth), Leslie (Ron), and Susan (John); son-in-law, Don Hazlett; fifteen grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
She leaves behind her beloved siblings: Jean Miller (Neil), Olive Burns, Ellen Ogilvy (Trevor); sisters-in-law, Joan MacKenzie and Merle Wall; brothers-in-law, Dan McGuire, Gordon Nagel; and many nieces and nephews.
Frances was predeceased by her husband, Don; son, Donald Jr., her parents, Olive and Joseph; brothers, Donald, John, and David; sisters, Anne, Kathy, and Isabel, sister-in-law, Alma MacKenzie and brothers-in law, Otto Hauck and Maurice Hermary.
A Celebration of Frances’ Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Connelly McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive St. Albert.
Due to Covid-19, the family requests that all attendees be fully vaccinated.
Memorial donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
