Florence Rogers, 80, of Stittsville passed away peacefully at the Ruddy Shenckman Hospice July 6 th 2021
with her children by her side.
Born to Edith and Harry Cook on 4 October 1940 in Belfast, Ireland. Florence “Cookie” left the Emerald
Isle to join her sisters Rose and Ruby in Toronto, ON where she met her husband Mervyn. In pursuit of a
growing family and greener pastures, Florence and Mervyn established themselves in Durham, ON
where they farmed for many years.
Florence is survived by her two children, Margaret (and Ross Reid) and David (and Grace Rogers); eight
grandchildren Kirsta, Matt, Casey, Jesse, Kathleen, Sam, Judah, Caleb and three grand-children Owen,
Kayla and Olivia. Florence was predeceased by her loving husband Mervyn in 2002.
Florence was known for her love of family and friends, compassion for the suffering, a zest for life and a
witty sense of humour. Florence was consistent wither values and faith, whether it was at home, on the
farm, in the Durham Furniture factory, in church or in someone’s home. In 2017, Florence was inducted
into the June Callwood’s Circle of Outstanding Volunteers recognizing her extraordinary contributions to
hospice palliative care in Ontario.
A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, July 8th at the North Grenville Community Church, Kemptville.
The burial will take place at the Trinity Anglican Cemetery in Durham, ON at a later date. Donations to
the Canadian Cancer Society or the Beth Donovan Hospice, Kemptville, in lieu of flowers is greatly
appreciated.
