Eveline June Backous October 14th 2021

BACKOUS, Eveline “June”
Narch 24, 1931 – October 5, 2021
Eveline “June” Backous was born March 24, 1931. She passed away on Tuesday October 5, 2021.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Wendy; her son-in-law, Roger; and her brother, Fred Paasche. Plus innumerable nieces and nephews. She was married to Hugh Backous for 62 years until his passing June 19, 2014.
June grew up on a farm near Hanna, AB. She loved all animals and even had pet cows that came when she called. She loved horses and riding as well. So much so she used to break horses for a living.
June was baptized on May 9, 1947 and she began Pioneering in her late teens. And in 1951 she met Hugh Backous while attending the only congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Calgary at that time. The more they went out in the ministry together, the more their fondness grew for one another. And on April 24, 1952 they were married. She continued to Pioneer after they were married until five years later when their daughter Wendy was born.
June worked part time as a Hostess at Andy’s restaurant in Calgary, and then at Standard Brands for many years packing margarine.
She enjoyed family time, skiing, and golfing. She took great pleasure in reminding Hugh that he never got a hole in one but she did!
She also loved gardening and flowers. Her face would always light up whenever she was given flowers. And she loved being in the country! Looking at farms, livestock, horses etc.
June had strong faith in Jesus, words regarding the resurrection, hope found in John 5:28 & 29 where he said “ Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out …”
She looked forward to the time when all our dear loved ones would awaken from death and be with us once again. Just as we long for the day we will also be with her once again and Revelation 21:3 & 4 will have been fulfilled.
June will lovingly be remembered for her sense of humor, her feisty nature and as we like to call it “her June look”! But more importantly, for being a wonderful wife and mother.
We long for the day in the very near future, when we can hear her laugh once again, and tell her how very much we love her and missed her!
Wendy and Roger would like to express their warmest and deepest appreciation for the extraordinary loving care and support that was given to Mom on a daily basis by the staff at Bethany Didsbury! In the final weeks of Mom’s life their care was exemplary. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
