April 15, 1930 – June 15, 2021
Born in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan to Natalie & Ernest Kew, Ed passed away in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 91yrs.
Ed lived a full and rewarding life giving his heart and time to everything he believed in. He began his working career at the age of 15, packing bags of flour at Robin Hood Mills in Moosejaw, and before dedicating himself to the Canadian Armed Forces, he had experienced work in the nearby oil fields, and with Canada Post. He served overseas in the 1950’s, accompanied by his wife Leone and young family, followed by various posts across Canada where he became actively involved in the communities he lived, meeting many friends whom he held dear for all his life.
His career in the Air Force as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) technician not only fulfilled his childhood interests but continued throughout his life, teaching others, and advocating for responsible gun ownership. He was also recognized for his dedication and commitment in various roles with St. John Ambulance, Fish & Game, Search & Rescue, RCMP (as Auxiliary & Jail Guard), Masonic Order, Eastern Star, Shiners, Falkland seniors & the Conservative Party of Canada, among others.
Ed loved and respected nature, hunting and collecting guns, coins, badges, and other memorabilia, but always loved his home and family above all. His stubborn and stern nature, along with his gentleness (not seen as often!), will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 34 years, Brenda Kew, children Ernie (Josee) Kew, Bill Kew, Phyllis Bastarache, sister Grace (Colin) Brown, step-children Jeff (Amanda) Smith, Karen (Doug) Needham, Christopher (Leilani) Smith, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Ed was predeceased by his youngest son, Richard, in 1985.
A celebration of life tea will be held in the Falkland Hall at a later date to be announced.
Donations may be made in Ed’s memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ernest Ed Edward Kew June 15th 2021..
