It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Erica Joan Babcock (née Carey) on Sunday August 1st after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. Joan’s devotion to family and unwavering faith in her Lord supported and comforted her and ultimately gave her peace.
Joan was born on August 12, 1937 in Campbell’s Bay, Quebec, youngest child of Erma and Allen Carey. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 59 years Lorne Babcock. She will be dearly missed by her children Jo Ann (Ron) Dizy and Scott (Sue) Babcock, her grandchildren Kyra and Max Dizy, and by her siblings Dorthy (Gordon) Smith, Glenn (Helen) Carey and Grant (June) Carey.
Joan was an accomplished professional, with a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree, and enjoyed a successful career teaching nursing at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and at various colleges, before embarking on some entrepreneurial pursuits.
Joan will always be remembered for her talent on the piano, her incredible generosity, her kindness and thoughtfulness, her graceful style, and her love of family, friends, and her God.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Markham-Stouffville Hospital, Wesley Acres Retreat and Campground, or your charity of choice.
