Elizabeth Louise “Betty Lineker

Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Lineker was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by family on December 16, 2021 at the age of 87, after a long but graceful battle with alzheimers.
She was born in Vancouver BC to Calvin and Elsie on Jan 24,1934. While working at the American Consulate in Vancouver she met the handsome and talented brother of her sister’s fiance, Garnet Lineker. This beautiful, intelligent, and classy young woman married him in 1954 and had four children; Brenda, Dave, Donna and Jeff.
Betty had a very busy and fulfilling life as a stay at home mom with four active kids in the 60’s in Richmond BC. As the kids got older she began working outside the home, and over the course of her life had many interesting jobs and volunteer positions. Notably, she became president of the George Hilliard P.T.A. after moving to Kamoops in 1970. She successfully lobbied the City to install a stoplight at Holt and Tranquille, ensuring the safety of youngsters crossing on the way to school.
Betty was very social and belonged to the Kamloops Golf and Country Club Business Ladies Group. She also loved her bridge group and was always up for a game of scrabble. In her stretch and sew phase in the 70’s, she was able to create matching outfits for the whole family, including a polyester leisure suit for Garnet. (Thanks Mom).
Although “Betsy,” as her sister Bev called her, was valued as a hard worker and someone able to to organize and get things done, anyone who met her knew her real gift was the ability to love unconditionally and make everyone feel special. Her kindness was extraordinary. She has left a legacy of selflessness, compassion, thoughtfulness, and grace.
Betty cared deeply for her Family: they were everything to her. Garnet, Her Husband of 67 years; their kids and their spouses (Andree, and Rob); grandkids Mike, Robbie (Demi), Jarred (Nicole), Kelsey (Connor), Jordan (Caitlin), Matt (Beth), Tyler and Katie; great grandkids Brynli, Beckett and Briar. Her nieces and nephews. Her loyal Bichon Frise, Lucy. She loved them all.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff, management and volunteers at the Hamlets at Westsyde for the loving care they gave Betty in her time there. A special acknowledgement to Sierra and Grant who entertained, comforted, and soothed with beautiful music and compassionate hearts.
Much thanks also to the gang at the Ponderosa adult day center and the Handi Dart drivers that transported her. You are all angels here on earth.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
