Elia Clementa Luciani (née Celli), “Mamma” passed away peacefully at her residential home in Durham, Ontario on August 25th, 2021. She was in her 99th year. Elia was born the first child of Domenico Celli and Teresa D’Orazio on January 30th, 1923, in Carrufo, L’Aquila, Italy. She and her two sons, Nick and Terry, came to join her husband Giovanni, in Toronto in 1954. They crossed the Atlantic during Hurricane Hazel, the deadliest storm in Canadian history, first landing at Pier 21 in Halifax before moving on to Toronto. Elia was predeceased by her husband Giovanni, son Terry, and grandson Joe. She is survived by her sister Egilda Riossi, sons Domenico “Nick” Luciani (Nellie) and Tony Luciani (Jodie Anthony); her grandchildren Ellie Hennessey (Pat), Angela Luciani (Jim Reid), Emily Watts-Luciani (Charlotte Montfils-Ratelle) and Stefan Luciani; and her great-grandchildren Erin Daza (Eric Daza) and Louis Elio Montfils-Watts.
The family would be grateful for donations made in Elia’s name to your local Alzheimer Society.
