Douglas Ronald Shepheard passed peacefully with his beloved wife Claudia Shepheard by his side, on December 08, 2021 in his 85th year. Predeceased by his son, Kenneth. Survived by his children Allan (Donna Petersen), Cindy (Ernst Domitrovits), Randy (Ingrid Wootton), and Shawn (Christine Cheung). Douglas will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Tyson (Jordan), Kristien (Julie), Breanna (Matt), Cassandra, and Ashley. Cherished Great Grandfather to Evelyn, Brooke, Charlotte, Judith, Bradley, and Mirabel. Special Dad to his beloved cats, Hercules and Spartacus.
Douglas had a lengthy career enlisting in the Canadian Army at age 16. He worked for both the Municipal Government (City of Ottawa) and the Federal Government (National Capital Commission). He then earned the designation of Certified Financial Planner and started his own investment and insurance business, DRS Financial Services. He then became the Branch Manager for Ten Star Financial Services as a Professional Investment and Insurance Broker. He was a member of the Independent Financial Brokers of Canada with the designation of Chartered Financial Services Broker. He was a member of the Canadian Association of Pre-Retirement Planners with the designation of Professional Retirement Planner. He was a member of the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario. At Queen’s University he completed the Municipal Administration Course, presented in co-operation with the AMCT of Ontario.
Douglas was also the proud owner of two sporting goods stores in Ottawa. He started and ran the Parkwood Hills Softball Association, growing it to 600 kids. He loved coaching both ball and hockey. He coached many teams with the Nepean Minor League Hockey Association. He earned Coach of the Year honours with the Ottawa Nepean Intermediate Fastball Association. He loved organizing and volunteering.
Special thanks to the Neurology Team and the Palliative Care Team at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, to the staff at Kemptville District Hospital and to family doctor, Dr. Quach, for their amazing care and support. Special thanks also to the Pharmacy staff at Kemptville Shoppers Drug Mart for their support and compassion.
