Denise’s Obituary
Denise was born on November 21, 1959, to proud parents Gertrude (Ouellet) and Andé Sylvain. She was the second oldest of 8 children and the oldest daughter of 5 girls and 3 boys. She was definitely a helpful hand in helping with her younger siblings especially when harvest came around. She was like a second mom for most of her younger siblings. She loved to look after us and make her delicious brownies and jelly rolls (she was a great cook). Which also made her a great aunty to all of her nieces and nephews, especially when they were little. She was fortunate to travel to Paris on a school trip in her grade 12 year. She had great memories of this adventure and loved to share with her brothers and sisters. In 1978, Denise graduated from GP Vanier High School in Donnelly with honors. After high school, Denise enrolled in the Secretarial program at NAIT college in Edmonton which she attended for one semester and then returned home to Girouxville. She was the first in our family to attend college. She then had numerous jobs in the secretarial field including working for the MD of Smoky River, Sacred Heart Hospital and Alberta Forest Service in Peace River to name a few. She was able to purchase a brand new car – a Chev Pontiac Lemans. She loved that car and it was one of her greatest joys to drive and be independent. In 1984 she decided to complete her education at the Adult Education Center in Peace River, completing her Clerk Typist Certificate. This gave her other opportunities for employment and a feeling of accomplishment. She made Peace River her home in 1986 where she also did some volunteer work at the hospital as an office assistant.Some of her hobbies were riding her ten speed bicycle (that most of us had to share LOL) , sewing, reading, playing tennis, heading to the swimming pool, spending time with family and of course shopping.
She leaves behind 4 sisters Louise (Marcel) Ruel – Nephew Sylvain (Shelby) Ruel and Alain Ruel, Cecille (Michael) Hanigan – Nephew Jeremy and Eric Hanigan, Helene (Marcel) Simard, – Nephew Kyle Simard, Monique (Joel) Lavoie – Nephew Francis Lavoie and 3 brothers, Paul (Christiane) Sylvain Nephew Mathieu Sylvain, Fernand Sylvain, Gilles (Simerjeet) Sylvain, Nieces Nadia, Meera and Nephew Rohan Sylvain, her mom Gertrude Sylvain and is predeceased by her father Andre Sylvain.
After the service, family and friends are welcomed to join Denise’s family at the Girouxville cemetery and to the Sylvain farm for a small lunch.
