David Wayne Leslie
October 22, 1943 – March 10, 2021
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family, announce David’s passing on March 10, 2021 at 77 years of age after a long struggle with COPD.
David was born in Halifax, the son of Allison and Isa (McCarthy) Leslie. He spent all his life in the Halifax-Dartmouth area. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen (Dauphinee), sons Paul (Tammy) of Musquodoboit Harbour, Donald (Heather) of Middle Musquodoboit and 4 wonderful grandchildren, Jake, Cole, Jack, and Drew, whom he loved so much, brothers Carl (Kay) and Binney (Geraldine) of Dartmouth, Kenny (Shirley) of Sheet Harbour and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Keith and sisters Fay and Brenda in infancy.
David spent most of his working life in sales, 31 of those years in the tobacco industry first with Imperial Tobacco and then MacDonald Tobacco, where he retired from JTI-MacDonald in 2001.
David enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially his yearly salmon fishing trips to Newfoundland. He most of all loved the time spent at his cottage in Spry Bay where he loved to mackerel fish, consume large quantities of lobster and barbecue on his deck where he was famous for his great breakfasts. His chocolate making proved to be a big hit with everyone he treated.
Upon moving to Horizon Court, he quickly made a new circle of friends and enjoyed tending his garden plot and socializing.
We would like to thank the people from the Inspired COPD Outreach Program, especially Lesley MacGregor for taking such good care of David these last few years. Also, Dr. Vantol and staff at the Dartmouth General for their excellent care at the end.
Arrangements are yet to be finalized and will be posted when available. Due to COVID-19, funeral attendees will have to be limited to follow public health guidelines. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Inspired COPD program (Rm 4526, Halifax Infirmary 1796 Summer St. Halifax, N.S. B3H 3A7) or a charity of your choice.
