Clinton White 1928 2020

Obituary of Clinton White
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce Clint’s passing on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the age of 92 years. He was born to Harry and Jennie White of Endeavour, Saskatchewan. After completing high school in Yorkton, Clint realized there was little opportunity for a farm boy from rural Saskatchewan to go to University, so in 1948 he accepted a job with the CNR railroad as a telegraph operator. It was during these years that he met Alma Schmeiser, the love of his life who he married in 1952. Determined to better their lives, Clint pursued education and in 1968 he received his Ph.D in History. Along his steadfast journey he earned several prestigious scholarships and awards, including high honours in History. A teaching career as a History professor ensued at Regina’s Campion College, where he was well respected by his students and colleagues. Later, his social ethics drew him into politics where he was elected the NDP Regina Wascana MLA in 1978 and subsequently, appointed Minister of Culture and Youth in 1981. Finally, in 1992 Clint retired from Campion, after many years of commitment to his students. Dr. White has enjoyed a full life with many achievements but his published book, entitled “Power for a Province: A History of Saskatchewan Power” was one of his proudest accomplishments. He also enjoyed many world travels with Alma and trips to Humboldt for family functions and activities which created special memories for him. Clint will be remembered as a good natured man who was articulate with a sharp intellect and for his calm, humble demeanour. The last years have been challenging in terms of health but he never complained and often used humor to lighten the subject. He will be greatly missed by his neighbours, friends and family but we take solace that he will be reunited with his “darling” Alma who recently passed on July 3, 2020. Clint was predeceased by his parents; his wife; brother Donald White; sisters-in-law; Helen Musty, Hattie Eggerman, Mary White and Esther Schmeiser; brothers-in-law; Raymond Schmeiser, Raymond Eggerman and Tony Musty; nephew Don Schmeiser; nieces, Shirley Thoms, Valerie White and Kathryn Bax. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Clint’s final resting place will be in Humboldt’s Columbarium along with Alma. Due to COVID-19 a service will be held in Humboldt at a later date. Special gratitude is extended to Bill Horbach and the College Park II staff and Speers Funeral Home for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Clinton
