Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Clayton Skerry (Sgt. Retired) on May 4th, 2021 at his home with family at his side. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on August 5th, 1948, he was the son of the late Gordon and Dilys Skerry. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Madlyn and two sisters Mary Langille of Halifax, and Tammy (Gary) Faulkner of Calgary. Grandchildren, Cassie, Grady, and Brody, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Brent and his parents along with in-laws, Marie and Francis Mombourquette, and Dorothy Daniels.
He joined the military in 1969 and served 27 years. He and Madlyn moved around various parts of Canada ending up in Portage la Prairie where he began his civilian life. At the time of his passing, he was employed as a supervisor for Canadian Base Operators.
He was a very kind and caring person and was a volunteer for many organizations especially when Brent was young such as Beaver Leader, in Kapuskasing, Ontario, organizer for hockey and baseball in Barrington, Nova Scotia. He was also on the board for a youth wilderness group in Goose Bay, Labrador. He also volunteered at the Welcome House in Portage la Prairie. He enjoyed going to the trailer at Creekside in the summer and just hanging out with friends, playing cards, etc.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Don Davis along with Judy and Jake Dyke for their kindness in taking us to Winnipeg for treatment. Also, to all our friends who have been so kind to us by sharing meals, walking our dog and just being there when needed. We would also like to thank the home care staff and the palliative care staff for their kind and generous time coming to our home and giving us support. Special thanks goes to sister Tammy for spending the last month helping out with meals, taking care of Clayton and house work and just being here for support. Special thanks also goes to his sister Mary for the daily calls and support from Nova Scotia.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date when Covid restrictions are lifted.
