It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Claude Carvalho, 85, in the Dartmouth General Hospital on June 5, 2021
Claude was born in Kundapur, Mangalore India in 1936. He was the youngest son of Simon and Christine Carvalho. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cynthia Carvalho, son Cletus (Grace), daughter-in-law Roshini, and grandchildren Shelby, Mia, Ethan and Justin as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Claret, sisters Josephine(Benjamin), Rosie, and brothers Eddie(Bessie), Sherry, Frank (Jenny), Jerry (Pressy) and Jossie. He is survived by sister-in-laws, Connie and Rita.
Claude started his career as a teacher at St. Aloysius High School, Mangalore, and then worked for the Bank of Kuwait in Kuwait for 32 years. After the Gulf War, the family moved to Dartmouth, N.S. He worked for Marriott Food Services at St. Mary’s University in Halifax until he retired in 2001 Claude was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Windmill Road in Dartmouth. He served as a Sacristan for 25 years and was the treasurer for the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was also a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, serving 10 years as the Financial Secretary for St. Paul’s Council #13017.
The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors and nurses of 3 West Dartmouth General Hospital (2019), 6 East Camp Hill Veterans Hospital, Melville Lodge, and Ocean View Continuing Care Centre, for all the compassionate and loving care Claude received over the past two years. And heartfelt gratitude for the to Dr. Moeller and Dr. Morgan and the incredible nursing staff on 5 East Dartmouth General Hospital who provided care in his final days. We would also like to thank all our dear friends and neighbours for their help, visits and prayers during Claude’s illness, especially Dorothy and Ray Wincey for their love and support during this difficult time.
Donations in Claude’s memory can be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
