Obituary of Catherine M. Smith
(nee Stapleton)
January 26, 1925 – November 11, 2021
Catherine passed away peacefully in her 97th year at Regina Gardens LTC, after a long battle with dementia. She was predeceased by her loving husband, George in 2000. Dear mother of Larry (and his wife Shona), Charlene, and Cam. Grandmother of Amber Abbott (Keith), and Carrie Smith (Chris), and great-grandmother of Rylie. Catherine was a very talented singer, organist, pianist, cook, baker, artist (paper tole and ceramics), seamstress, bridge player, and a pet lover. She loved to entertain others. Catherine was the Office Manager for George’s Electrical Contracting business for many years. She was devoted to her churches and served in many positions, including Sunday School teacher, Junior Choir leader, choir member, Explorer leader, Church organist, pianist, and Choir leader. Mom loved to travel and Dad indulged her every whim, knowing wherever they went, he would endure some form of motion sickness. Unfortunately, dementia would rob her of all of her life’s memories over the years. Special thanks to the patient, caring and compassionate Staff at Regina Gardens. Memorial donations in Catherine’s memory to the Hamilton Burlington SPCA, Barton Stone United Church, Jerseyville Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated. Cremation and a family graveside service have taken place. Notes of sympathy and condolence may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca
