Carol Elaine McHaffie 2021

Obituary of Carol Elaine McHaffie
It is with broken hearts that we announce the very sudden passing of Carol McHaffie (nee Hannah) on Monday August 30th, 2021 in her 63rd year. Carol was, “the best mom in the world” to her daughter Alyse and her husband, Torrance Dodge. She was an adored, “Dramma” to her only grandchild, Lakelyn. Carol was predeceased by the love of her life, the late Bruce McHaffie whom she was married to for over 34 years. She was a devoted daughter to Edith Hannah and was predeceased by her brother Johnny and father, John Hannah. Carol will be terribly missed by her brothers, Doug and Gary Hannah (Brenda) and her brother-in-laws, David and Rodney (Laurie) McHaffie and sister-in-law, Cheryl Whitehead (Harry). Carol was loved by her nephews and nieces Mathew (Taylor) and Brittany Hannah (Jen), Venessa (Todd) Badour and Sean (Marnie), Malorie, Ryan (Abby), Mara (Dan) and Daniel McHaffie. Carol was a loved great aunt to Hannah, Elizabeth, Sophie, Morgan and Eva and she will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Carol spent many special times with her “inlaws” Tish and Blake Emmerson and she had many wonderful friends that she considered family.
To Carol, the most important thing was family. She loved spending time with everyone and they equally cherished times with her. Her favourite times were with Alyse and Tory and her eyes lit up when she spoke about little Lakelyn. She had an infectious laugh, a constant smile and a generous heart, always looking for things she could do for the people that she loved. When you invited Carol for dinner and told her to bring nothing, she arrived with at least 3 dishes! She made everyone around her feel important and appreciated. Many family functions were at Carol’s home. She was famous among family for how she loved to decorate for holidays. There were trees for every occasion, and she made sure to keep her real Christmas trees alive and beautiful for the Hannah Christmas even if it was a month later. Carol was a talented crafter. She made many detailed cross-stitched pieces and she loved to knit; often bringing her needles and wool with her just in case she had a few minutes to work on a project. Many family members have been lucky enough to have been given beautiful sweaters, blankets, doll clothes and Christmas stockings hand-made by Carol.
Carol spent her life working hard, starting her career at Scotia Bank when she was just 17 and remaining there for 36 years. After her retirement, she always had a project, and had recently spent months renovating her home and then helping family members with theirs. There was nothing Carol wouldn’t attempt.
Carol loved to travel, especially when she and Bruce could take their bikes and trailer and they spent time on the west and east coasts and Florida.
She absolutely loved being with her family at the Hannah cottage.
Carol’s commitment to her loved ones was never more evident than when she cared for her dear Bruce through his battle with ALS. She was his constant caregiver, refusing to ask for or accept help and never once complained about how tired she must have been. Her dedication to Bruce was an inspiration and an example of true love to everyone around her.
Carol will be dearly missed everyday but we hope that her heart will be happy again alongside her beloved Bruce and Dad. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation.
