Obituary of Candace Hitchcock
HITCHCOCK, Candace “Candy” Dorothy
(nee Hickling)
1953 – 2021
Candy was an extraordinary caregiver, professionally and in her personal life. She spent her entire career working with people who needed her assistance. People were approached with a heartfelt warmth and calming presence by Candy. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Candy was a nurse, companion, wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and cousin. Candy always caught the Christmas spirit and loved celebrating with others while helping to create a wonderful experience each year. She would often play cards and board games with her friends and relatives. She would spend hours producing just the right greeting card with the right sentiment to celebrate special times for those she knew. Candy loved to dance and was part of a line-dance class for several years. She reveled in telling others that she was going fishing. She also enjoyed travelling with friends. Candy was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Steven; her brothers Guy and Garth; her aunts and uncles Elvira and George, Arnold and Winnie, Elmer and Betty, and Harry. Candy’s death leaves a hole in the lives of those she has left behind. She will be missed tremendously by her husband, Ed Hitchcock; her children Steven (Sarah)Tetrault, Brie (Kevin) Pawlak; her adored grandchildren Chloe and Alia Tetrault; her very special mother-in-law Rita; her Aunt Cathy (Harry) Hickling, her cousins and all the nurses she worked with. Ed’s family feel like they have lost a sister. Her friends Marlene Hendrie and Barb Jaruga, known Collectively with Candy as the Three Musketeers, will miss her friendship and support. Candy’s favourite colour was yellow. It reminded her of sunshine, smiley faces and the bounties of life. She especially loved yellow roses. She will live on for those she cared about. ln memory of Candy, think of her when you see yellow and the sunshine that she brought to the lives she touched. Cremation has taken place. As we are in the midst of a pandemic and following Candy’s wishes there will not be a funeral service, but a private family interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Candy can be made to Canadian Nurses Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or an organization of your choice.
