BOILEAU Alberta Marie Ouellet December 30 2020

Alberta (Ouellet) Boileau was born in 1927 in Fort Rae, Northwest Territories. When she was 9 years old, her family moved to Lac La Biche, Alberta. A year later, when their house burned down, the family moved to Edmonton. After completing high school, Alberta worked at various clerical positions in Edmonton.
She entered the religious order of The Sisters of Charity of Halifax in 1951 and left the order in 1957. In 1959, Alberta had a daughter, Kim Ross, whom she gave up for adoption. They were reunited in 1994 in Winnipeg, where Kim grew up. Alberta was married to Calvin Boileau from 1960 until his death in 1997. They shared a love of pets, owning both cats and various breeds of dogs over the years. Alberta and Calvin hosted an annual Open House on Boxing Day enjoyed by family, neighbours, and friends.
Alberta was a friendly, intelligent, articulate, and optimistic person. She easily made new friends and had many lifelong friendships. Alberta was most proud to have self-published in 2015, “One White Man,” her biography of her father Gratien Ouellet, a pioneering builder in the Northwest Territories in the early 20th century. Alberta had a unique and beautiful personal style. She took pride in being impeccably and fashionably dressed.
At the time of her passing, Alberta lived at Extendicare Eaux Claires in Edmonton where she loved to particulate in cribbage, painting, playing cards, and watching her favourite Discovery, History, and Home and Garden shows. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the wonderful staff for the care she received there.
Alberta will be forever remembered by her goddaughter Melanie Perri, daughter Kim Ross, son-in-law Dennis Engel, grandsons Marcus and Jordan Engel, sister Marie A. Ouellet, brothers-in-law Robert McEwan and Jim (Patricia) Wilson, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Special thanks to Jude McBride, Alberta’s niece, for all the kindness and support she has given Alberta over many years. Additionally, a special thank you to Helen Delaney for her friendship and help in these last few years.
Alberta is predeceased by her parents Gratien and Rose Alma (Blanchard) Ouellet; siblings Sister Josephine Ouellet, Therese McElgunn, and Lucia McEwan; mother-in-law Bernadien Ann Smith; sister-in-law Lorraine Wilson; and brothers-in-law Tom McElgunn and Douglas Watters.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
