Betty Bette Brandon 2021

Betty (Bette)’s Obituary
On July 16, 2021, Bette Loreen Brandon passed away quietly in Kamsack, SK, at Kamsack Nursing Home and was finally free from pain and suffering.
On December 1st, 1945, this loving, quick-witted, funny little girl was brought into this world in Kamsack, SK. She brought joy and smiles to everyone she met her entire life. From very early on, she loved art, animals, and music, and throughout her life became well versed in all of those things. Later, she also discovered Astrology, and it became a lifelong passion for her, one she shared with all who would listen.
She was educated at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon right out of high school, at 16. She raised her daughter, Doren, as a young single mum, while working as a talented graphic artist at the Co-op College and University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
She got involved with and became passionate about quilting in the 70s, and quilted for many years, creating and hand stitching her own patterns. Bette enjoyed music, mostly folk music. She played guitar, piano, and had a beautiful singing voice that sadly, she didn’t let very many people hear. She was also a very talented songwriter and poet.
In the late 90s she moved back to her hometown of Pelly, SK, to spend her days gardening, quilting, and creating beautiful paintings of her beloved farm in her cozy home with her cats. She also loved being a substitute teacher at the local schools at Pelly, Keeseekoose, and Cote. She cared so much for her students, and always shared with them her unique perspective of the world.
Bette’s art was sold near and far and donated to the local museums and businesses in and around her hometown of Pelly. Her passion for her art brought her so much joy in the later years of her life, and she will forever be remembered as one of this area’s best artists.
Bette was predeceased by her mother, Christena (Challoner); father, Lorne; and her sister, Donna (George) Green.
She is survived by her daughter, Doren Card of Errington BC.
A Private Graveside Service was held on Friday, July 30, 2021, from Greenwood Cemetery, Pelly District, SK, with Tricia Challoner officiating. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Bette Brandon.
A note from her daughter, Doren:
My mum was the best mum any kid could have asked for. Being a single mom was hard, but she never let me see that. She had a lot of great friends as I was growing up, they were family. They helped raise me with her, with love. There was always joy in the house and music, lots of music. Oh, and cats, lots of cats too! She taught me compassion and creativity, how to sew, draw, and quilt. Most of all, she taught me how to embrace life, and live joyfully and deliberately, and learn everyday. I will miss her every day of my life. Rest peacefully now, Mum.
