Obituary for
Audrey Doreen Pratt
Pratt, Audrey Doreen – Age 94, Crowe’s Mills. Our precious mother, Audrey Doreen Pratt of Crowe’s Mills, passed away on September 16, 2021 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. She was 94 years old.
Audrey was born September 24, 1926 in Southampton, England. She later moved to Eastleigh along with her parents and siblings. She was a daughter of the late Samuel and Dorothy Smith. Besides her parents, she was also deceased by her husband, Leland; a son, Earl in infancy; brother, Dennis Smith and sister, Olive Bull.
She is survived by her son, David (Sharon) Pratt and their children, Shauna (Henry Landry), Christian (Wendy) and Patrick (Barbara) and great grandsons, Kyle and Gavin. She is also survived by her daughter, Darlene (Yopie) Robben and their children, Rebecca (Phil Walters), Melissa (Katie Shannon) and great grandson, Jesse Howell. Also surviving is her brother, Harold (Julie) Smith; sister-in-law, Muriel Pratt and many nieces and nephews here and in England.
Audrey was an English war bride, married in March 1945 to her handsome Canadian soldier and immigrated to Canada not long after the war ended. She proved her toughness by enduring the harsh Canadian winters and she was always amazed at how many “Christmas trees” there were in Canada.
She was a stay-at-home mum for many years, where she created a place of love and support, not only for her own family, but any child or young person who entered our home. No one ever left without something to eat, a hug or a word of encouragement. Mum later went to work at the Lewis Hat and Cap Factory in Truro and then moved to the carpet factory from where she retired.
She was an active member of the Belmont United Baptist Church where her husband served as deacon for many years. She was a great support to his church work. Audrey was also a proud member of the Nova Scotia War Brides Association. She and her daughter attended many war bride reunions. Audrey could do “Knees Up Mother Brown” with the best of them!
The family would like to extend their thanks to Cedarstone Enhanced Care and their exceptional staff. Many of you loved her as we did and made her a part of your family. Donations in Audrey’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation, CEHHC “We Care About Cancer” or charity of choice.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 22nd at 1 p.m. until time of Memorial service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Darrell Feltmate officiating, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS.
