Asuncion Kimpo Fenol 2021

Asuncion Kimpo Fenol
June 1, 1916 – January 9, 2021
Asuncion Kimpo Fenol, passed away peacefully of natural causes in her sleep on January 9, 2021 (104 yrs old), in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Asuncion was born on June 1, 1916 in Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines. She is predeceased by her loving husband Dr. Honesto A. Fenol, Sr. They were married on May 10, 1940. They had 5 children – Melabel married to Faustino Caguiat (both deceased), Angeline (married to Lucio Valledor), Honesto, Jr. (married to Rosabella Montes), Victoria (married to Rene Reynoso), Grace (married to Jose Abalos Jr). Asuncion & her husband migrated to Toronto, Canada in the Spring of 1972.
Affectionately called ”Sunshine” by her 14 Grandchildren, she has also been blessed with 24 greatgrandchildren.
Asuncion was the 6th child of Don Leoncio Garcia Kimpo and Melania Ortiz Morales. Predeceased by 4 brothers & 4 sisters, she grew up in a closely knit, fun loving, musically talented family. Conversations during their family gatherings revolved around Philippine politics & law which usually escalated to intellectual debate & banter. Asuncion worked as a School Teacher after obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Education degree. She was a dutiful and caring wife, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was very prayerful, witty, intelligent, a wide reader, always compassionate & giving to the underprivileged and the needy. She was active in both civic and religious organizations. She enjoyed her years as a volunteer with the Philippine Red Cross, Philippine Girl Scouts, and Catholic Charities. For many years, she was the Secretary of her Parish Church Catholic Women’s League and was an Officer of a Women’s Club that managed the operation of a Community Health Centre. In the 70’s, she was a founding member of the Filipino Parents’ Association in Toronto. Her husband, having served in the Philippine Army Medical Corps, joined the Toronto Filipino Veteran’s Association and Asuncion was an active participant in supporting activities of the Veteran Association’s Women’s Auxillary group. She was a member of the Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians where she enjoyed participating in the Seniors’ programs and events.
By Almighty God’s grace, we thank our beloved “Sunshine” for her great influence in our lives – the love, the wisdom, the kindness, the respect and the wonderful lessons she shared unselfishly with our entire clan & her friends through the long years. She will be greatly missed.
